Robert Sachs, Author and Photographer
"Oftentimes an originator of new language forms is called ‘pretentious’ by jealous talents. But it ain’t whatcha write, it’s the way atcha write it.”
Jack Kerouac

My short fiction appears in The Louisville Review, the Chicago Quarterly Review, Tikkun Magazine, Diverse Voices Quarterly and the Delmarva Review, among others. I earned an M.F.A. in Writing from Spalding University in 2009. My story, “Vondelpark,” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2017. Originally from Chicago, I currently live in Louisville, Kentucky. I serve on the board of Louisville Literary Arts.

You'll find a collection of some of my published short stories under the "Publications" heading in the drop down menu in the upper left. I hope you take the time to read one or two and I hope you enjoy them. Drop me a line if you do.

A word about the Grasmere Writers Group: We are Michele Ruby, Gayle Hanratty, Rick Neumayer and Bob Sachs. All of us are graduates of the Spalding University MFA in Writing Program. We rely on one another for support, criticism and inspiration. Check out the websites of these wonderful people. Joe Peacock, one of the founders of the Grasmere Writers, died in March, 2016. He was a close friend, a dear person and a wonderful writer of both prose and poetry. We miss him. I will keep the link to his website here as long as his family keeps his site up and running.

My Photographs

I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer.
I've won some awards, have published and have even sold a photo that was in a show.

Click on "My Photographs," above, to see more of my work.

There are also some photos of the New York opening of my son Josh's art show.
Much of his art can be found on his website here. And my photographs of his show are here.

Louisville Literary Arts

This is another of my passions. The mission of LLA is to enrich the literary life of Louisville by engaging readers and writers. Louisville Literary Arts is a 501(c)3 organization. Gifts are tax-deductible and go 100% to programs. We count on our donors— individual, educational and corporate—to help fund literary events for Metro Louisville readers and writers. Check out LLA here.
